Introversion confirmed Sunday, 21 Jan 2007

Why is it the very few guys I’ve met this year that I would have liked to have asked out for a drink already have partners or seeing somebody? To be fair I didn’t come across them looking for people to go out with, but then again most of the people I know haven’t intentionally sought the person they are currently with.
So this week started off rather boring like every other, however I had the fortune of escaping to Newcastle for two days to go to a confernce. The conference was a bit crap as it was supposed to facilitate networking, which didn’t really happen, I only got to speak to a few people who I didn’t already know, one of which happened to be a rather cute boy (and hence the question to start). The enforced social event was at some interactive biology museum, which was rather crap although myself and the cute boy did master the Japanese dancing arcade games, aided by the some of the worst red wine I’ve ever drunk (although not the worst).
The second day of the conference involved doing a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test: and apparently I’m an INTJ. Which confirms the introversion, though I reckon its reducing well I’m in more situations that require me to not be introverted. Apparently it means I’m highly analytical, and open-minded and suspicious of theories based on poor research – like all psychometric tests it tells me nothing new. I actually came out as an INTP on the scorecard but the validation session convinced me that I’m INTJ, although I think I’m very borderline, and as the fembot identi-kit psychology bimbos (who’ve probably only just graduated themselves) said its only your preferred type, and I’m certainly becoming more J even if I’m still rather flexible.
Anyways enough of the rubbish pyschometrics, followed by lunch which closed the conference, and gave me the chance to swap (work) contact details with the cute boy. Then headed to the train with my two colleagues, somehow Yasmine ended up on the train before the one we planned to get. Anyways we got on the train and it was going a bit slow, but because of the wind they had put speed limits on the line. However the one who got the train text to ask if our train was terminating at York. Evenutally we were told that we would be held at York due to severe delays, a message that eventually turned into “We advise against all travel, if possible please return to your originating station”. Well that’s what I was trying to do.
So we decided to abandon the return to London and find somewhere to stay in York, and discovered that Yasmine had caught the train with cute boy and his colleagues. So while Liz went to visit her friend in York and cute boy’s colleagues went off to visit somebody else, Yasmine, me and cute boy strolled around York and found a very nice bar/gastropub: 1331 which did very good food in very good portions and gave us a free bottle of wine. Well after a night of unintentional flirting we mosied back to the hotel where Yasmine decided to go to bed and I went back to cute boys’s room to watch The Trial of Tony Blair. Nothing happened, but it certainly wouldn’t have been unwelcome, and I actually think something might have had I stayed.
Friday started with breakfast, at which I swapped mobile numbers with cute boy, and then travelling. Luckily we managed to get seats that the reserved traveller had abandoned, which was lucky as when we pulled into Doncaster the platform was packed and the train suddenly filled up. Conversation on the train went all over the place but did result in the disclosue that he was seeing somebody (but seemed like he wasn’t happy to admit it), however it did also result in the decision to have lunch sometime.
So while the conference was crap, the adventure of getting stopped in York and the fun of spending it in the company of a cute boy means that it has been a rather enjoyable week.
2007 definitely seems to be starting better than 2006 did.
