This weekend was a rather lovely weekend, although I didn’t really do much – but that might be why. Recently I’ve been all over the place at the weekends what with mum moving and my brother and family moving to Canada.
Saturday I went into town and went shopping: Fopp have a new store in London on TCR where Purves & Purves used to be – its massive, absoutley massive compared to their store on Cambridge Circus; I also popped to Paperchase and borught materials to make a birthday card – although the recipent happens to be out of the country for his special day. After shopping I came back home and started to tackle the messiness of the flat, at least the washing up got done, the second phase (tidying the living room) and third phase (tidying my room) are still to be done but at least its a start.
Sunday I decided to go for a walk with my camera. I almost went to Columbia Rd flower market but decided that I didn’t want to carry plants for ages. Instead I walked off to Brick Lane to explore the markets and walked on to Spitalfields. I stopped for lunch and had a lamb and rosemary square pie with mash from the Square Pie people in Spitalfields. I then walked on towards Aldgate East through the back roads rather than down Commerical Street. At Aldgate East I decided to walk along Whitechapel Road rather than through the backstreets and stopped in at The Whitechapel gallery, they’ve got a display by one of Germany’s leading contemporary artists (whose name I can’t remember or be bothered to find). Some of his work was quite interesting especially one of his monochromatic paintings but some of his stuff was far too ‘conceptual’ for me: I mean how is putting two pictures of scantily clad women on top of a piece of newspaper art?? By the time I reached Whitechapel I was getting hungry and thought I should go to Sainsburys and brought myself various foodstuffs. I managed to make it back to the flat before the rain started to fall from the sky and then sat myself down with a glass of wine and my book. For dinner I cooked for the first time in weeks and cooked myself some a chicken breast baked in lemon juice and spices and had it with salad and cous cous. The rest of my evening was taken up with playing with the photos I took which you can peruse by clicking the photo or clicking here.

… but then again not that much to update on (apart from the apparently irreversible descent into the apocolypse) – well I’ve been to Barcelona, which I do need to write about because it was an amazing place. Just thought I’d give a brief update on what’s being going on.
1. Decided to resign: I’ve decided that I just can’t work for my boss anymore and I don’t think there’s anything he can do that will make me stay – so now just need to find myself a job for about six months to a year.
2. Decided to do a masters/phd next year: I need to go back to academia for at least a while – I need to improve my skills but also want to learn more in a more positive environment.
3. Mum’s move house: so now I’m homeless (not in a physical sense, but my home has gone) and will be for a number of years (if not decades given current house prices in London).
4. Need to clean the flat: two boys do not good tenants make – have about two weeks of washing up to d, at least I’ve dealt with the mouldy potato!
Well that’s about it for news. Take care dear readers (all two of you!).
